About the Program
The information superhighway has proved to be a durable policy metaphor for the last decade. Questions of access (on-ramps), the speed of development (broadband or narrow band), rural development policies (the digital divide) and the equitable distribution of technological benefits (again, the digital divide) have been addressed in the context of the highway metaphor. Now, as a new Administration assumes power in Washington, D.C., leading North American policy makers, academic experts and industry and consumer representatives will gather at the University of Washington School of Law to share policy analysis, debate policy prescriptions and explore recommendations for leaders in national capitals and other state and provincial venues.
Current developments in case law which may enhance or erect barriers to new policy directions will also be considered. This dynamic conference is recommended for lawyers, business people, and policy makers who hope to influence the new economy and emerging technologies' impacts on society.
