    About the Program

The Eastern Washington Indian Law Conference, sponsored by the University of Washington Native American Law Center and Gonzaga University Law School, will be held at Gonzaga University School of Law in Spokane on March 14, 2003. The program will cover topics of interest to attorneys whose practice involves Indian tribes and their members as well as those who come into contact with Indian treaty rights or statutes affecting Indian tribes.

Indian law experts will discuss issues related to child custody, education, the bounds of state and tribal jurisdiction as well as law enforcement in Indian country. There will also be a review of recent Indian law litigation and legislation. The program concludes with a review of the relationship between Indian water rights, state-based water rights and the environment.

We have assembled some of the region’s foremost experts on nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations to provide sound theoretical advice as well as practice pointers in evolving areas of the law such as corporate governance, investment of corporate funds, charitable fundraising activities, Internet activities, unrelated business ventures and partnerships between nonprofit and for-profit entities.
